Silver Award for Shawbury’s Adjutant

Personnel at RAF Shawbury were delighted to learn that Flying Officer (Fg Off) Lucy Sharman-Davies, the Station’s Adjutant has recently been awarded the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries’ and Administrators’ (WCCSA) Silver Medal. This award is presented annually to a RAF Personnel Support officer and TG17 airman/woman who have excelled whilst undergoing training.

The Master of the Livery Company, Mr Christopher Hallam, presented the awards at the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration (DCLPA), Worthy Down on Wednesday 26 October 2016. He was accompanied by Colonel Pyle and Assistant Chief of Staff Personnel and Policy, Air Commodore Harper.

Fg Off Sharman-Davies was nominated for the Silver Award for her excellent academic achievement, strong leadership, and high standards and values. Whilst undergoing training, she demonstrated confidence and integrity in everything she did. Her eagerness to learn and then relentlessly pursue excellence, coupled with her overall outstanding results, meant that she was a popular and richly deserving recipient of the ‘Top Student’ Award for her Course. In addition, she was judged to be the best overall student out of the thirty-nine officers who completed the Personnel Branch Officers’ Foundation Course in Training Year 2015/2016.

Fg Off Sharman-Davies joined the RAF at the age of 24. Following completion of her degree at Aberystwyth University where she studied International Politics and a short time in retail at British Home Stores, she decided to look for a new challenge and joined the RAF Reserves, enlisting in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force (RAuxAF) in 2013. This provided her with opportunities for Adventure Training and personnel development whilst training to be an Intelligence Analyst. She was the first reservist to graduate from the Operational Air Intelligence Course (OpAIC). After training, she worked regularly for the RAF in a variety of Intelligence Analyst roles.

She said: “My time working alongside regular personnel provided an invaluable insight in to the RAF, including the lifestyle, and wider defence. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the RAuxAF and decided to apply for my Commission in 2015 within the Regular RAF. Prior to applying for my Commission I researched a number of different trades, however, Personnel Support was the one that I felt best suited my personnel qualities and career ambitions. When I first heard that I had been awarded the Silver Medal I was both shocked and proud. I am honoured to receive this award from the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and hope to do the award justice.’
