Defence Helicopter Flying School’s Deputy Chief Flying Instructor Hands Over Flying Controls

IMMEDIATELY after landing from his last sortie at RAF Shawbury, Major Jon Dufton handed over his role as Deputy Chief Flying Instructor of the Defence Helicopter Flying School to his replacement, Squadron Leader Holly Steel.

Having served in this role for the last 2 years, Major Dufton has been assigned to Middle Wallop where he has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the post of SO1 Army Aviation Standards.

Squadron Leader Holly Steel is not new to RAF Shawbury having trained and served here on a number of occasions. She has extensive experience as a Search and Rescue pilot and has flown over 250 rescue missions and amassed almost 3,000 flying hours. This experience was invaluable as the Flight Commander on B Flight of 22 Squadron which was located at Wattisham Airfield, Suffolk. Before becoming Deputy Chief Flying Instructor, Holly served on tours at Headquarters Joint Forces Command, two operational deployments and a further command tour in Number 1 Group, Headquarters Air Command where she was part of the Operational Training Team delivering the RAF’s training exercises worldwide.
