Thomas Adams School celebrate Red, White and Blue Day

Students at Thomas Adams School were delighted and excited to an RAF Shawbury helicopter fly low over the school and proceed to land on the school sports field recently. Queues of children lined up to sit in the helicopter and to ask the pilots questions; some students seemed very interested in a future career in the RAF.

Thomas Adams School has close ties with RAF Shawbury as a number of the students have parents who are or have been involved in the Armed Services, particularly the RAF. RAF Shawbury is particularly keen to support of the schools STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities; this year they were able to provide a visit from a helicopter and aircrew. The visit also tied in with the school’s annual Red, White and Blue day, an event where the school shows its support of the Armed Forces and simultaneously raises funds for Armed Forces charities. Students paid £1 to dress up wearing clothing in a Red, White and Blue theme; some attended in their cadet uniforms. Sales at a red, white and blue cake and sweet stall boosted their fundraising efforts and overall the day raised a grand sum of £800. This was donated to the ABF- the Soldiers’ Charity, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
