RAF Akrotiri

RAF Akrotiri Voluntary Band

The RAF Akrotiri Band is the smallest of the Royal Air Force’s eight Voluntary Bands and the last Voluntary Band based overseas. Its membership is drawn from part-time musicians serving in either the RAF, another of the Armed Services, or the civil service in Cyprus. Like the other bands it too is supported by dependants, retired service personnel and local civilians, and undertakes the customary engagements such as dinners, fetes and charity work. The Akrotiri Band is unusual in that unlike the 7 UK-based Voluntary Bands, the Band’s Voluntary Band Instructor is also a "volunteer" himself, and it is a reflection of his and the Band’s commitment that they travelled from Cyprus to support the 90th Anniversary Massed RAF Voluntary Bands Concert in April 2008.
