Earlier this Summer the Secretary of State for Defence, Sir Michael Fallon announced the opening of Ground Close Combat roles in the RAF Regiment to women from September 2017, ahead of the previously announced schedule of 2018.

Today marks that milestone, with the application process finally going LIVE – click HERE if you want to know more.

The opening of the RAF Regiment to women means that there are no longer any RAF roles that exclude women from participation. Air Vice Marshall Alison Mardell, Director of Legal Services, explained how the RAF has demonstrated once again it's progressive nature. 'The RAF has not sat back and waited to do this, we have gone early. Showing that all opportunities are open to everybody.'

She emphasised that the time is right for the Air Force to do this. 'With all branches and trades now open to all we will appeal to a new generation from a more equal society helping us remain relevant.'
