Intelligence plays a crucial part in every mission at the RAF. You will learn to use state-of-the-art technology to help gather intelligence, allowing you to disseminate tailored information to commanders, aircrew or troops.

Whether using your skills as a linguist to interpret foreign language transmissions or providing vital intelligence to support military forces deployed around the world, there will never be a dull day.

Do you have what it takes to be the eyes and ears of the RAF?

You could become an Intelligence Analyst. You will use technology and your analytical skills to provide vital intelligence. Your actions will make a direct and timely impact on operations around the world. Or, why not become an Intelligence Analyst (Linguist). You will work to interpret foreign language transmissions, gathering valuable information using state-of-the-art surveillance systems.

Or you could be better suited to become an Intelligence Officer. Managing a team of Intelligence Analysts and Linguists who are working to obtain, analyse and present defence intelligence from a variety of sources. Your job will take you to new locations around the globe and allow you to work alongside counterparts in the Royal Navy, the British Army or NATO. Do you have what it takes?

What qualifications do I need for Intelligence roles?

TO APPLY FOR AN INTELLIGENCE OFFICER ROLE YOU NEED TO:

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47
  • Have GCSEs at grade C/4-5 or above; or SNE equivalent grade 5 or above in
    Mathematics, English Language and three other subjects.
  • In addition, you need at least 2 A2 Levels/3 Highers at Grade C or above (excluding General Studies or Critical Thinking) which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points.
  • Alternatively, if you hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or higher (or acceptable alternative) you only need Mathematics and English Language GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or Mathematics and English Language SCE Standard Grades of 2 or SNE Grade 5.
  • Be a UK citizen from birth, have resided in the UK for 7 years immediately prior to application and your parents/spouse must currently have UK citizenship.

  • Be aged between 17.5 and 47

Do I need to be physically fit for Intelligence roles?

  • Every person in the RAF is required to maintain a level of fitness to complete both initial and specialist training, and to do their role effectively. The exact fitness requirements will depend on your role, age and gender.
  • Fitness is a key part of RAF life – with all the clubs and sports you can get involved with on a wide variety of levels, from occasional fun to Olympic competition.

Where will I be based?

The RAF has bases for intelligence all over the UK and abroad. All intelligence personnel at some point will be required to complete training courses at RAF Chicksands, but what exactly this entails and where you will go on from there is dependent on your role and what each base currently requires.
