Corporal Jason (Jay) Cawston (Mech)

2017 Circus 3 Blues Age - 30

Education - Jay attended North Doncaster Technology College in Doncaster South Yorkshire. After completing his GCSE’s he went on to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship in Aeronautical Engineering.

Career - He joined the RAF in November 2004 and on completion of basic, and AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic) courses, was posted to 617 Squadron, Tornado GR4. During his time on there he deployed to Al Udied and completed other UK and European detachments. Jay returned to DCAE Cosford in 2007 for further technical training and graduated as SAC (Technician). He was then posted to Combined Maintenance and Upgrade facility (CMU) at RAF Marham. Whilst in CMU he volunteered for a deployment to Camp Bastion Afghanistan in an out of trade role as a Detainee Handler. On returning he volunteered to be part of the Venue Security force for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics which he classed as one of the best experiences he has had in the RAF.

Jay was posted to the Red Arrows in 2012 and promoted to Corporal in 2013. In 2016 Jay was selected to lead the Red Arrows Dye team where he deployed with the team on a regular basis throughout the display season.

Background -

Jay lives in Lincoln with his wife Rachel. In his spare time he enjoys mountaineering, hill walking and cycling along with his wife. He has a keen interest in historical military campaigns and cars.
