South West Region Air Cadets enjoy unforgettable week packed with action, aviation and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
More than 100 young Air Cadets from across the South West have enjoyed the adventure of a lifetime after taking part in a week-long Multi Activities Camp at RAF Odiham.
The action-packed camp gave cadets the chance to experience life on an operational RAF station, try new challenges, make lifelong friendships — and even take to the skies in a Chinook helicopter.
Cadets were lucky enough to go behind the scenes at RAF Odiham, visiting specialist areas including the Armoury, Fire Section and Air Traffic Control, where they discovered the wide range of skills and roles required to keep an RAF station running.
The cadets also headed off station to Brooklands Museum, getting a close up look at the iconic Concorde, before taking part in sporting and team-building activities including football and go-karting alongside station personnel.
But the biggest thrill came during a visit to 18 Squadron, RAF Odiham’s frontline flying squadron.
Cadets were given the extraordinary opportunity to climb aboard a Chinook helicopter and experience a flight, creating a memory that will stay with them forever.
For one of the cadets taking part, the experience was a clear highlight of the week.
“The whole camp has been incredible, but flying in the Chinook was something I’ll never forget. It was amazing to see what happens behind the scenes at RAF Odiham and then actually get the chance to fly in one of the helicopters. I’ve made some brilliant memories and met so many great people.”

"Odiham camp was amazing !!! I was able to learn about many different job roles in the RAF and I was privileged enough to go in a flight in a chinook !!! That was a highlight of the camp and all of the cadets drill enormously improved and were able to have a drill competition which was amazing
