The RAF Air Cadets of Merseyside Wing have been honoured with the award of the Freedom of the Borough.
During a ceremony at Chester Town Hall, the Lord Mayor of Chester and the Council of Cheshire West presented the Honorary Freedom of Cheshire West and Chester Borough to Merseyside Wing and 22 Multi-Role Medical Regiment of the British Army. The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour the Council can bestow to military units. It acknowledges the longstanding relationship and bond between the military and the Borough.

The Freedom of the Borough was accepted by Wing Commander Joe O’Riley on behalf of Merseyside Wing. Also present were representatives of Cheshire and Wirral based Squadrons and Wing Staff Officers, who were all proud to be there for such an auspicious occasion and see history in the making.
“I am incredibly proud that Merseyside Wing has been granted the Freedom of the City of Chester. This honour reflects the dedication and community spirit of our Cadets and Adult volunteers. It is a proud moment that recognises their hard work and the positive impact they have across the region. For our Cadets especially, it reinforces the value of their commitment and inspires them to continue striving for excellence in service and citizenship.”
