Grenadier Guards play birthday treat for cadet after return from Buckingham Palace

A Royal Air Force Air Cadet received a special rendition of Happy Birthday from the Band of the Grenadier Guards during a trip to London with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets National Marching Band.

CI Sue Innes told how the cadets visited Wellington Barracks and had the privilege of seeing a behind-the-scenes rehearsal of the ‘Changing of the Guard’ before the Grenadier Guards formed up for the all-important inspection on the Parade Square.

When the Guards’ Band returned from Buckingham Palace the cadets received a personal performance, including Cadet Evie's treat for her 14th birthday.

Watch the video of Evie's birthday treat on the RAFAC Facebook page.

Cadet Evie celebrated her 14th birthday in style.

The cadets then had a rare opportunity to play under the direction of the Guards’ Director of Music, Captain Ben Mason. They were also allowed to try on uniforms, including the Bearskin hat.

Thank you to Captain Mason and his musicians for their valuable time and also to Lance Sgt Amy Shave, Musician Adam Rouse and Sgt Matt Gray for arranging the tour and being such fabulous hosts.

Images of the day were taken by Sqn Ldr Sue Leighton, RAFAC Music Services Staff.
