RAF Air Cadets success at National Cadet Clay Target Competition

In early April, 36 air cadets from four regions (along with a number of CCF(RAF) cadets as part of CCF teams) attended the National Cadet Forces Clay Target competition, held at Cambridge Gun Club.

The cadets competed in a number of different clay target disciplines, including: sporting, down the line, flush, and skeet. Skeet shooting is the version most people will be familiar with seeing in the Olympics, with two targets released from high and low towers moving in an arc.  Sporting is a popular discipline where the targets are thrown to represent the flight of common game birds.  Flush shooting is one of the more dynamic disciplines, with a number clay targets thrown continuously for a team.  Down the line uses one trap set up in the centre, with five stands in a line behind it.  Each shooter takes their turn in shooting at an individual target moving along the line until each shooter has shot at five targets.

There were several notable results for the RAFAC, including first and second in the top overall individual competition, second and third in the top overall team competition, and top adult.
