Read School Air Cadets were treated to a very special day as they were lucky enough to visit to the Red Arrows at their home at RAF Waddington. The fascinating presentation held the cadets spellbound for over an hour with cadets asking so many interesting questions. A quick break for doughnuts and drinks and then into the hangar to hear all about the engineering involvement and the work of the support crew. Everyone enjoyed getting the chance to sit in the cockpit of the recently retired Hawk 1a and future plans, hopes and dreams began to take shape.
Talking about the opportunity, Plt Off Annette Oliver who accompanied the cadets on the visit said, "On behalf of all the cadets and staff at Read CCF, I would like to pass on our warmest thanks to the team at Waddington for their wonderful hospitality and for sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm - you were all so inspirational."
The cadets also showed their appreciation with the chance to gain a greater understanding of the behind the scenes view of the Reds, LCpl Darcey Kidd commented,
"It was such a great trip and really broadened our horizons even more about other job opportunities within the Red Arrows. It also was such an incredible opportunity to meet one of the red arrows engineers of which will be travelling in the backseat of the red arrows next season and seeing the world from above. I highly appreciate having the opportunity to go on this trip as it was a once in a lifetime experience and I will always remember it."
