Inaugural National Cadet Air Rifle Meeting

Twelve teams from the RAF Air Cadets (including a number of CCF(RAF) cadets as part of Combined Cadet Force teams) attended the inaugural National Cadet Air Rifle Meeting, held at the Lord Roberts Centre at Bisley, Surrey.

The teams, including several from squadrons new to national competitions, competed strongly. However on this occasion the Army Cadet Force took the top trophies home.

Despite this, RAF Air Cadets did gain 25 of the “Cadet 50” badges awarded for the top 50 individual shots at the meeting. The RAF Air Cadets also placed second in the Inter-Cadet Force Final.

Wing Commander Matt Oram, Shooting Delivery Enablement & Continuous Improvement Head at HQRAFAC, commented,

“Thanks to all the staff who supported the event, and in particular to Sqn Ldr O’Connell and Flt Lt Hackett of No.1 Welsh Wing for their assistance with the RAFAC team for the Inter-Cadet Force Final.

A lot of work had clearly gone into preparing for the event, particularly from those new to Inter-Service competition. While the results weren’t quite at the level of some of our recent shooting successes, the event was a big hit with the cadets, and I’m sure the RAFAC will be ready to put in a stronger performance next year.”
