RAF Air Cadets launches new bronze ground school and wings syllabus

The RAF Air Cadets has launched its new bronze ground school and wings syllabus, marking a major milestone in the organisation’s aerospace education programme.

Developed collaboratively across the Aerospace Ground School (AGS) network, the syllabus provides a modern, engaging, and standardised route for cadets to gain a solid foundation in aviation knowledge and practice. It combines classroom instruction, hands-on simulation, and applied learning to prepare young people for further study, flying training, or future careers in aerospace.

Over the past year, the new syllabus has undergone extensive testing and validation:

  • 48 cadets earned Bronze Wings at the National Air & Space Camp
  • Six more cadets completed a controlled trial at 621 AGS (Boscombe Down)
  • Final evaluation event in October confirmed readiness for full roll-out across the UK.

Feedback from cadets and staff has been highly positive, praising its clearer structure, modern content, and closer alignment with today’s aviation environment.

Wing Commander Marland Green MBE MEd RAeS, National GBT Lead added:

“The new Bronze syllabus reflects the professionalism and innovation within RAFAC’s aerospace training community. It delivers a consistent national standard while allowing local teams to bring it to life in their own way. It’s a great example of how we are modernising our approach to aviation education.”

Squadron Leader Jamie Methuen, OC 621 AGS, said:

“This syllabus marks a significant step in how we teach and inspire the next generation of aviators. It provides a clear and credible pathway, grounded in modern instructional practice and supported by strong collaboration across the AGS network. It’s a programme designed to last – relevant, accessible, and ready for national delivery.”

The new bronze ground school and wings syllabus will now be delivered across the RAF Air Cadets’ AGS network, providing young people with the opportunity to explore aerospace in a structured, inspiring, and nationally recognised format.
