I was nominated for the Dacre Sword in 2026, and as a result of that process nominated as a Commandant’s Cadet. I am from 1216 (Eastleigh) Squadron, and during my time in the Air Cadets I have been fortunate enough to achieve things I never thought possible.
With the Air Cadets I have been fortunate enough to gain qualifications in both gliding and flying training to post solo status, a BTEC level 2 in teamwork and personal development, leadership, ground school instruction and Duke of Edinburgh silver award.
I’ve been hugely supported by the Air Cadets and the volume of opportunities that have been offered to me is amazing, with highlights including adventure training such as paddlesports and mountain biking, attending competitions, engagement with sporting activities, meeting VIPs and networking with senior staff and the public.
I have been encouraged to secure these opportunities and push myself forward, engaging with the organisation in as many ways as I can. I am incredibly grateful for everything that the Air Cadets has offered me, and I plan to join the Air Force, or look for a route into becoming a commercial pilot.
My highlight
My highlight so far has been attending the Royal International Air Tattoo as an Air Cadet. I worked within the immersive technologies team, showcasing new immersive flying simulators to members of the public. This experience helped me to focus my love for engagement within the Air Cadets and an opportunity to promote the Air Cadets.
I made some incredible friends on the camp, as well as having the opportunity to meet many VIPs such as the Warrant Officer of the Royal Air Force.
Ultimately, this experience demonstrated to me that hard work within this organisation can get you anywhere. I never imagined that I would get the opportunity to train people on flight simulators or work airside on a live airfield. What I have put into this organisation I have got out tenfold, and the development that I have received from the Air Cadets is something that I will be forever grateful for.
