I joined the RAF Air Cadets in 2022 and since then have achieved the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and had several incredible experiences. For example, I had the opportunity to represent the RAFAC on the International Air Cadet Exchange in France where I met cadets from several different countries and experienced a new culture. I also had the chance to complete the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme which saw me complete three weeks of training in the Grob Tutor and complete a solo flight in RAF Aldergrove. As well as this I was chosen as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the city of Glasgow where I accompanied the Lord Provost to many events such as Remembrance Day.
In addition, I have enjoyed attending many other camps all over the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed adventure training camps as they allowed me to try activities I never thought I would, such as abseiling. Other events I have attended include athletics, first aid courses and parades.
Highlight
The highlight of my cadet career was joining 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron as a flight staff cadet. Through joining I have expanded my knowledge on how an airfield works and settled into a squadron of amazing people. As of now, I have completed my gliding scholarship and advanced gilder training with six solo flights to date. As well as this I have been qualified to drive the winch, service aircraft and am the senior flight staff cadet. Being able to assist cadets experiencing their first flight in a glider is a truly rewarding experience and allows me to give back to the organisation.
