Six teams from Air Training Corps Squadrons represented the RAF Air Cadets at the National Cadet Forces Target Sprint competition, held at Cranleigh School in Surrey, along with a number of CCF(RAF) cadets competing as part of CCF teams.
The Target Sprint Competition combines running with air rifle shooting. The individual matches involve running 400 m, shooting, running another 400 m, shooting for a second time before one final lap of 400 m. The team event is similar, but with each team member doing one lap of 400m and shooting once.
For each shoot, the competitor has 15 shots to knock down five targets, with a time penalty for any targets left standing.

It was a successful event for the RAF Air Cadets, who claimed the top three places in the 16 & Over Male category, second in the 16 & Over Female category, third in the Under 16 Male category, and the top three places in the Community Cadet Teams category. First place was also secured in the CFAV (Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer) match.

Wg Cdr Oram, Shooting Delivery Enablement and Continuous Improvement Head at HQ RAF Air Cadets said,
"Thanks to all the staff who supported the event, to the Council for Cadet Rifle shooting (CCRS) for organising, and to Cranleigh School for hosting.
Target Sprint is a new addition to the cadet shooting calendar, but is proving popular with those cadets who have had the chance to take part. There is plenty of capacity at this event, and it would be great to see some more RAFAC teams taking part next year."
