Support for those experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence or stalking

Have you heard of Aurora New Dawn?

It’s a charity providing specialist support to those experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence and/or stalking.

Set up in 2011, the team provides a bespoke service for the Armed Forces. Whether serving personnel are in the military or a victim whose alleged perpetrator is serving, individuals are guaranteed confidential support which is totally independent of the Chain of Command.

Support is available for direct family members as well, where the alleged perpetrator is serving, so please share the resources below as widely as you can.

Aurora New Dawn support is available via a helpline or WhatsApp chat and services are accessible to personnel and families wherever they are in the world. An advocacy service is available face to face, in person or on Team - depending on location - or on the telephone.

The Aurora New Dawn team has recently added a new,  dedicated advocate for the Royal Air Force family to the team.

In this role, our advocate provides confidential, specialist support to RAF personnel and their families who may be experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence or stalking. This includes emotional support, safety planning, advocacy, and guidance through services and processes; ensuring survivors don’t have to face these challenges alone.

Having been part of the armed forces community themselves, with a partner serving in the RAF, they understand the unique pressures and challenges military life can bring and are looking forward to collaborating with different teams and support services across the RAF community to further enhance the support available to survivors.

They can be contacted as follows:

Landline number: 02392 479 254 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)

Helpline & Whatsapp: +44 333 091 2527

Domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking is never ok. Everyone deserves support and to know help is available. We all have a vital role to play in preventing and tackling domestic abuse within the RAF family.

Remember, the RAF also has a Domestic Abuse Handbook. Launched in 2024 the handbook is available in Sway format, providing critical information on what to do if you think someone is in need of help and where to get support.
