The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) were thrilled to receive the King Hussein Memorial Sword, awarded for the best overall flying demonstration at the 2018 Royal International Air Tattoo.

After three days of spectacular displays including the 'Trenchard' (Dakota, Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire), the 'Trenchard Plus' (Dakota, Lancaster, two Hurricanes and three Spitfires) and the 'Gibson' (a tribute to 617 Squadron with the Lancaster, a GR4 Tornado and the new F35 Lightning), the BBMF knew they had put enormous effort into a fantastic RIAT show, so to receive recognition was hugely rewarding.
The weather was sweltering for the aircrew, the groundcrew and the team in the PR tent - who reported a large number of queries about joining the RAF. The groundcrew did find some shelter from the sun under a Hurricane, as can be seen in the following photograph.

So, RIAT 2018, in the centenary year of the RAF, is over and preparations can begin for next year's show....
