NEW OFFICER COMMANDING FOR THE RAF'S ONE AND ONLY PARACHUTE DISPLAY TEAM

Flight Lieutenant Mikaela Harrison has handed over the esteemed title of Officer Commanding the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team to Flight Lieutenant Ash Grey-Smart.

After leading the team through their fantastic 2019 display season, Mikaela now departs for pastures new in Airborne Delivery Wing, also based at RAF Brize Norton.

“My year as Officer Commanding has flown by, but I have made many memories that will last a lifetime. I am sad to go so soon but I wish every member of the Team all the best in their future endeavours and thank them for an amazing two years.”

Ash has just spent his first year on the Team as the Deputy Officer Commanding, where he travelled up and down the UK ensuring that all Drop Zones were controlled suitably as the Drop Zone Safety Officer.  Now in his second and final year, he will have the chance to jump with the Team and lead them into their 2020 display season.

“I have had a great first year on the Team with many stand out moments along the way and feel exceptionally honoured to now be taking on the role as the ‘Officer Commanding’.  I have been in the Royal Air Force for 15 years and this is certainly one of many highlights in my career to date.”

Prior to the season starting officially next year, the Falcons will undergo an intense training period, which will see them travel to America twice to conduct their display parachute training.
