Herts County Wind Sinfonia visit RAF Music

Herts County Wind Sinfonia bring RAF Veteran Kenneth Amphlett to meet RAF Music.

The Central Band of the Royal Air Force had the pleasure of hosting RAF veteran Kenneth Amphlett as part of a visit by Herts County Wind Sinfonia on 17 February 2020 to take part in a musical workshop at RAF Northolt.  Grandfather to young student clarinettist Ben Graham, Mr Amphlett served with the RAF from 1953-57 both in the UK and as part of British Forces Germany maintaining and camouflaging aircraft and land vehicles.  Although leaving to become an engineer at Royal Mail, the RAF is still in his blood and represents;

"the best four years of [my] life"

The uplifting tribute of  Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines was rehearsed, recorded and performed by the joint forces of the Central Band and young musicians of the Wind Sinfonia to celebrate Kenneth’s service.

Before the impromptu concert, a surprise photo shoot with the massed band was organised with his grandson Ben by his side gave him some “beautiful, special memories.”  He left the Station “speechless…crying tears of joy” for all those who allowed him to relive the best years of his life.
