Charities

The Red Arrows help more than 500 UK charities every year, supporting a variety of important causes directly and indirectly.

And more than 1,000 people, including youth groups and members of the public, are hosted by the team every 12 months, as part of a busy visitor programme which runs by invitation at the Red Arrows’ base.

Often, these visits will have been offered to charities as auction prizes as part of their official fundraising activities.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team Trust also donates thousands of pounds to good causes every year.

Meeting the public is a high priority for the team. Members of the engineering and support sections attend many events and displays during the season with the team’s public relations unit.

The pilots also take time out of their busy schedule during the display season to meet fans on the ground and members of various charities.

They also give up their own time to carry out evening presentations and give motivational talks to groups and organisations, as well as visiting schools and hospitals.

For example, the team has long-visited Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in the run-up to Christmas to meet children, their parents, carers and medical professionals.

Jon Egging Trust

The Jon Egging Trust was set up in memory of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, who tragically lost his life while flying in the Red Arrows display at the Bournemouth Air Festival in 2011.

The Trust realises Jon’s dream of inspiring young people through his love of aviation, teamwork and leadership.

It supports young people aged 13-16, who find themselves in difficult circumstances, to overcome adversity and achieve their full potential.

Accredited learning programmes are delivered by the Trust to develop young peoples’ work and life skills, provide positive role models, raise aspirations and help them re-engage with education.

The Trust does this in partnership with inspirational individuals – including current Red Arrows pilots – in exciting environments and by offering them life-changing opportunities linked to aviation, engineering and science.
