Air Vice-Marshal Jamie Thompson CBE has been announced as the new Commander of UK Space Command, taking over from Major General Paul Tedman CBE.
Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Thompson brings a wealth of operational space experience to his new post. He was previously the Deputy Commander of UK Space Command, a position he was appointed to in December 2024.
"I am delighted to be joining such a vibrant and exciting command at a time of unparalleled operational activity and capability growth. It is great to be back with friends and colleagues I have worked with for over two decades."

AVM Thompson joined the RAF in 1997 as a Weapons Technician, before commissioning in 2003 as a Communications Electronics Engineering Officer. His career spans air defence, cyber, air-land integration, and intelligence operations. As an Air Commodore he led the six forces in RAF Global Enablement, prior to becoming the Deputy Commander of UK Space Command.
Major General Tedman is now retiring from the British Army after over 30 years of leading, flying, and fighting in the most demanding of environments.
“It’s always a privilege to command, but to lead our joint space forces over such a crucial time in such an important domain has been the apogee of my career. The command has come of age on recent operations and accelerated delivery of space capability, and I leave confident that it is ready for the challenges ahead. AVM Thompson is a fantastic choice to succeed me, and I wish him every success.”
