The RAF detachment in Estonia will continue to perform their role to the highest of standards whilst many family members and friends in the UK enjoy the Easter bank holiday. For the detachment, as for many Christians and individuals of all faiths, in the UK and around the world, Easter represents a time of personal reflection and unity.

The personnel of the RAF’s 140 Expeditionary Air Wing continue to undertake the NATO Mission to the highest of standards over the traditional Easter Weekend.  I want to offer my praise for the continued efforts of our personnel, with specific appreciation for the unwavering positive morale that the collective Expeditionary Air Wing display, knowing our thoughts will be with family and friends back home.

The Royal Air Force recently took over command responsibility for the NATO Combined Baltic Air Policing mission in Estonia from the German Air Force. The combined mission began in March and both nations have performed well together with several successful intercepts of Russian aircraft flying close to Estonian airspace.

It is important that all of 140 Expeditionary Air Wing personnel continue to carry out the NATO Combined Air Policing Mission to the highest of standards.  Nevertheless, we should not forget the selfless commitment of RAF personnel here in Estonia, just like in many other locations around the globe, to continue to fulfil the mission set upon us to keep societies across NATO safe, including friends and families back in the UK.  They do this in the knowledge that many of their peers and family members are enjoying the long bank holiday weekend.

The UK and German detachments will continue to operate as a closely integrated and synchronised force over the Easter period and through to the end of April to ensure the safety of NATO territory and bolster security in the Baltic region. Although the German Air Force will depart at the end of April, the Royal Air Force will continue to undertake the NATO mission to the highest of standards as the sole nation until August.
