RAF Exercise Auxilium Fort: Enhancing Operational Readiness

Exercise Auxilium Fort is a vital Royal Air Force training event that focuses on testing and refining the capabilities of the RAF’s six Global Enablement forces. These forces include support specialists such as engineers, logisticians, force protection teams, air security personnel, air movements experts, communication specialists, and medical crews.

The exercise is centered on the RAF's ground-based component, emphasising their preparedness to support the rapid deployment of air power. A key element of this exercise is the testing of the Global Response Team, a deployable unit trained specifically for aiding "Air Point of Departure" operations. This team plays a crucial role in Defence's Crisis Response efforts, facilitating air operations during emergencies, such as humanitarian aid missions or non-combatant evacuations.

Throughout the exercise, personnel are tasked with securing and operating in a simulated decommissioned airfield, honing their technical skills essential for operational readiness. The scenarios are deliberately challenging, including simulating attacks on base, managing multi-vehicle accidents, and maintaining operations in austere environments to prepare teams for various threats they may face when deployed overseas.

This year marks a significant step forward as the RAF joins forces with international allies, particularly the French Air and Space Force. The inclusion of French personnel enhances interoperability and mutual understanding, strengthening the collaborative ties that have developed between the two nations since the signing of the Lancaster House agreements in 2010.

In addition to operational integration, Exercise Auxilium Fort helps maintain high levels of interoperability in logistical frameworks and infrastructure, crucial for future joint missions. As RAF personnel train alongside their French counterparts, the emphasis on concepts like Agile Combat Employment (ACE) prepares them for efficient deployments with minimal logistical footprints, ensuring operational freedom in joint operations.

Ultimately, Exercise Auxilium Fort exemplifies the RAF's unwavering commitment to operational readiness and global security, while fostering strong alliances that are essential in today’s complex security landscape. Through these exercises, the RAF not only enhances its own capabilities but also contributes to a more robust collective defence framework with international partners.
