This week, the ‘Max out in the Lake District’ team, including four handsome Springer Spaniels, were able to visit the service personnel deployed on Exercise KUKRI DAWN.
This exercise was the final assessment for both pilots and crewmen on 28 (AC) Squadron’s Operational Conversion Unit, if successful they then move to their first operational frontline squadron.

Kerry Irving the founder of ‘Max out in the Lake District’ has previously supported individuals from within the military and the squadron with mental health support and, as he was transiting through Fife at the same time as the exercise, the squadron were able to invite the team over for a visit.
“It was a great honour to join with the team and spend some time with 28 Squadron and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed meeting and greeting the students on their break”.

This visit was a great conclusion to a trying 10-day exercise where students on both the Puma and Chinook airframes completed their final check sorties before passing out of the Operational Conversion Unit.

“It’s always great to meet inspiring people like Kerry who have made great strides to help those in the military with mental health issues and learn of his huge charity fundraising. We talked of recent operations and how many of us have experienced difficult times. Sadly, we couldn’t have these Spaniels with us in Afghanistan it may have helped when times were tough! Kerry is doing what we all need to do, namely more talking and spreading the burden. We all loved meeting Kerry and the Dogs”.
