The RAF was prominent at the ‘virtual’ Annual Apprenticeship Conference Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony 2021 held on 8th July where it was awarded ‘Highly Commended – Large Employer’ in the coveted Apprentice Employer of the Year Award category.

Established in 2017, the Awards are a celebration of the very best work by individuals, providers and employers in the delivery of apprenticeships in the UK.  The Apprentice Employer of the Year Category recognises outstanding commitment to apprentices and apprenticeships within an organisation, with judges looking at evidence of commitment, a demonstration of the success apprenticeships bring to the employer, and evidence of the success apprentices themselves have within the organisation.

The RAF is fully committed to its apprenticeships programme which was established in 1920.  It offers apprenticeships to over 90% of its recruits; 24 trades complete apprenticeships which are delivered ‘in house’ across Training Schools and out onto our many bases. With over 3400 apprentices on programme at any one time, it is one of the largest providers in the country.  Following its last inspection, the RAFs Apprenticeships scheme was awarded the grade of ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and is listed at tenth in the prestigious Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers List.

“The Royal Air Force is proud to be recognised with this award. This success demonstrates that, after a Century of delivery, apprenticeships remain central to our training philosophy to develop highly skilled, committed and motivated people.  Having one of the UK’s top apprenticeships schemes allows us to continue to attract the high calibre of people we need to remain at the forefront of Air and Space power delivery.”
