The Commonwealth Games kick off in Glasgow on 23 July, and Corporal Kyle Booth will be flying the flag for the RAF after being selected to represent Wales at the games.

Corporal Booth, who competed at the previous games in Birmingham, is hoping to shine at the Glasgow games (XXIII Commonwealth Games), in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events.
The aviator’s selection is made extra special as the RAF also happens to be celebrating the Swimming Association’s (RAFSA) 100th anniversary.
Speaking about being selected, Corporal Booth said:
“I’m extremely excited to represent both Swim Wales and the RAF at the games this summer. It has been a long and somewhat unconventional journey to reach this point, which makes the opportunity even more special.
“I genuinely believe I would not be in this position without the support of the RAF, and in particular my role as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI).
“Having competed at the previous Commonwealth Games, I am fortunate to have experience of the environment and demands that come with a major multi-sport event. I hope to draw on those experiences this time around, allowing me to be better prepared and perform to the best of my ability when it matters most.”
Corporal Booth qualified for the games via the recent British Championships event, following three weeks of intensive preparation.

He said:
“In the lead-up to the Championships, I had only been back in consistent pool training for around three weeks. Given those circumstances, confidence was probably the biggest thing I was lacking heading into the trials, which makes the outcome even more rewarding.”
“The RAF Swimming Association is delighted and immensely proud that Cpl Kyle Booth has been selected to represent Wales at this year’s Commonwealth Games. In this Centenary year for RAF Swimming, his achievement is a fitting addition to our proud legacy, joining the ranks of distinguished national and international representatives.”

Kyle's selection highlights the RAF's commitment to supporting its people. Through sport, service personnel can develop their skills, represent the Service and pursue opportunities alongside their military careers.
We wish Kyle the very best as he competes against the Commonwealth's top swimmers.
