Royal Air Force Provost Marshal visits 5 Force Wing Training Team in Nigeria

The RAF Lossiemouth based Short Term Training Team, from 5 Force Protection (FP) Wing, that is in Nigeria delivering training to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Regiment, Air Police and intelligence specialists has been visited by the RAF Provost Marshal.


Group Captain Horne, who in addition to being Provost Marshal is also Deputy Commander of the Force Protection Force travelled to NAF Head Quarters in Abuja to meet senior NAF Officers before travelling north to meet the RAF Lossiemouth based troops. 


On his arrival at the Nigerian Air base in Kaduna, he watched the mission rehearsal exercise, met the NAF airmen and spoke with the 5 Force Protection Wing troops.

5 FP Wing are in the penultimate week of a six week training course where they are delivering bespoke training courses in force protection, close quarter battle, military policing (including military working dogs, basic police course, counter intelligence and special investigations) and tactical intelligence to over 400 airmen.

When addressing the course students, Group Captain Horne said:

“It has been a real privilege to come out to Nigeria to see your training course in action.”

He added:

“I would like to thank the instructors from 5 FP Wing who are delivering a really good course using the knowledge they have gained from years of experience on operations.

“I’m genuinely impressed with just how committed and passionate you are about passing on your knowledge to Nigerian Regiment and Nigerian Police students.”

The training teams and students are currently deployed to an international airport to conduct the final training exercise before students graduate and are sent to their respective units next week. It is likely that many of the students trained on this course will deploy on operations across Nigeria with some joining the fight against Boko Haram in the North East.
