Last week, the Defence Hackathon 2025 brought together people from across Defence to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

The event demonstrated how Defence is embracing digital transformation to tackle real-world challenges. Proving that innovation isn’t just for tech experts, it’s for everyone with a passion for problem-solving and making a difference.
Participants ranged from developers to first-time coders, joined forces to address four major Defence challenges:
- Helicopter Landing Zone Reconnaissance
- Tactical Radio Frequency Spectrum Awareness
- Geospatial Aid Coordination for Disaster Response
- Operational Impacts of Climate Change
Over an intense 48 hours, teams turned bold ideas into working prototypes. The top ten pitched their solutions to senior Defence leaders, with the winning project now moving forward with the Defence Digital Foundry for further development.

This year’s success marks just the beginning. The Defence Hackathon is set to become a cornerstone of Defence innovation, driving creativity, digital capability, and teamwork across the organisation.
