The King leads nation in silence on Remembrance Sunday

The nation came together for the annual commemoration of Remembrance, which included a two-minute silence and a march past of Royal British Legion veterans.  

His Majesty The King salutes after laying his wreath at the Cenotaph.

Attendees to this event were treated to a stirring selection of music. During the commemorations The Foot Guards Bands played Rule Britannia, Isle of Beauty, Nimrod and When I am Laid in Earth. Pipes & Drums played Flowers of the Forest, Skye Boat Song and  All the Blue Bonnets are Over the Border.

On parade were Chief of the Defence Staff, Sir Richard Knighton and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth who joined The Prime Minister, the Foreign and Home Secretaries, and representatives of major political parties. 

The Defence Service Chiefs lay their wreaths:
Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton,
Chief of the Naval Staff, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, Chief of the General Staff,
General Sir Roly Walker, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth 

In total there will be more than 600 members of the Armed Forces on Whitehall, including musicians, marshals, those forming the Guards of Honour and those firing the Minute Guns.  

At 1100, two officers and 14 soldiers (Gunners) from The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery signalled the start of a two-minute silence by firing a Minute Gun from Horse Guards Parade.  

At this point, The Last Post was sounded by buglers of the Royal Marines.

The Massed Bands and Pipes and Drums formed up at the Cenotaph performed the following pieces: Massed Bands: Rule Britannia, Heart of Oak, Minstrel Boy, Men of Harlech . 

Pipes and Drums: Skye Boat Song . Massed Bands: Isle of Beauty, David of the White Rock, Oft in the Stilly Night. Pipes: Flowers of the Forest . Massed Bands: Nimrod, When I am Laid in Earth, The Supreme Sacrifice, Solemn Melody  

This was the first time the The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Corps of Signals have performed at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. 

At the conclusion of the two-minute silence, Trumpeters of the Royal Air Force sounded the Rouse. The Bands then played the National Anthem.
