Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists serving in Defence and around the world on 12 November this year.
Each religion marks different historical events and stories.
Diwali is a chance for families to get together, to draw confidence from the knowledge that ultimately good will triumph over evil, hope over despair and light over darkness. The latter is why it is also known as the festival of lights and is why candles are lit and often fireworks are set off.
In this video, Warrant Officer of the Royal Air Force, Warrant Officer Murugesvaran Subramaniam extends his warmest wishes for a Happy Diwali to all those who celebrate.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Rich Knighton also offered his best wishes, highlighting the importance of hope and determination, even in the face of adversity.
