  • Based at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire, Squadron personnel augment various ground branches: RAF Regiment, Operations, Engineering, Mechanical Transport, Supply, Catering, Personnel Support and Air Traffic Control.
  • Formed 1996 as the Helicopter Support Squadron, before renaming as 606 (Chiltern) Squadron in 1999.
  •  The squadron recruits nationally due to its specialist role supporting JHC.
  • Has deployed globally in the last decade.

History

1939-The squadron code ‘BG’ was allocated to No. 606 Squadron RAuxAF, but it was not activated during the Second World War. 

1996- Formed as the Helicopter Support Squadron of the RAuxAF at RAF Benson.

1999 – Awarded its 606 Squadron number after operations in the Balkans.
