THE SQUADRON

Personnel are largely recruited from ex-regular Intelligence Officers or long serving reservists. The Squadron maintains a niche resource of Subject Matter Experts. Squadron members generally work individually at HQs and stations across the UK and abroad. Personnel have deployed worldwide on exercise and operations since 1958.

BASED AT

History

1958   Formed as 7630 Flight RAF Volunteer Reserve to provide a pool of Russian linguists.

1972   Broadened Intelligence roles to provide analysis and briefing capabilities.

1997   Became 7630(VR) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

2003 - 2014   deployed in support of Op Telic and Op Herrick.

2017   Re-roled to become a Subject Matter Expert squadron within the Intelligence Reserves Wing.
