Childcare
For those requiring childcare, 15 hours a week is offered to children the term following their 3rd birthday (Mornings 9-12).
Children start school full time in the term following their 4th birthday at the primary school based at MPC.
A secondary school provision is available in Stanley.
Housing
Housing Costs are significantly cheaper for those in SFA in the Falkland Islands.
For example, a type III house costs as little as £1.72 per day, whereas in the UK it could cost up to £24.75 per day.
Energy prices in the Falkland Islands are combined under the fuel and light scheme costing circa £183 per month.
Health and welfare
Medical Centre
The Medical Centre cares for all MPC based personnel.
Social Worker
The Social Worker is available for welfare purposes for all personnel.
Chaplains
The St. Cuthbert’s Chapel is open 24/7 with a faith provision on Sundays at 1030 and Tuesdays at 1900.
Additionally, there is a World Faith Prayer Room available on camp.
Sports
There are two sports gymnasiums:
- Longdon is equipped with cardio machines, free-weights, a golf simulator, table tennis facilities, and basketball net. There are squash courts, a swimming pool, boxing area, and yoga studio too.
- Tumbledown has a spinning room, climbing wall and gym hall.
MPC boasts a number of sports clubs and teams, with fixtures against teams from Stanley.
Social
MPC has excellent provisions for social activities. A library, cinema, bowling alley, takeaway, bars, and a coffee shop are all within walking distance of the accommodation.
For those bringing families, there is additionally a purpose-built Families and Community Centre equipped with soft play.
