Benson Reservist Named As Best In Oxfordshire

Senior Aircraftman Sean Carter, a Part-Time Volunteer Reserve with 606 Squadron at RAF Benson, has been presented with the “Best Reservist in Oxfordshire 2020” award by the South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.

Sean, who owns a kitchen design company in Woking, stepped up to the challenge of supporting RAF Benson during the coronavirus pandemic.  With the station tasked to deliver support to the UK’s response to coronavirus, while still delivering its normal operational output, the logistical task of ensuring everyone had the right equipment in the right place at the right time was critical.  Sean was integral to this task being achieved.

With key members of the logistics team deployed in support of operations in the UK and overseas, and despite the pressures of the pandemic on his own business, Sean quickly relocated to RAF Benson.  Reacting swiftly to the ever-changing requirements, he stepped in to support wherever he was needed, from distributing equipment to flying squadrons to ensuring personnel were deploying with the correct kit.

Squadron Leader Andrew Bucknell, the Officer Commanding 606 Squadron, said: “Sean’s support to RAF Benson has been exceptional and he has been integral to RAF Benson continuing to deliver its operational output.  His selflessness and dedication to his Service is admirable and he is truly worthy of such an award.  Congratulations Sean and thank you to Dimond Light Source for sponsoring the award.”
