The Band of the RAF Regiment serenade Benson community

On 27 November 2025, the historic Dorchester Abbey resonated with the stirring sounds of the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, as they performed a special concert in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF). The event brought together serving personnel, veterans, civil servants, and members of the local community for an evening of music and solidarity.

The concert was cheerfully conducted by Flying Officer Howley was more than a celebration of musical excellence—it was a heartfelt effort to raise funds for the welfare of serving and retired RAF personnel and their families. Every note played carried a message of gratitude and support for those who have dedicated their lives to service.

For many this was the start of festive celebrations with one guest commenting, “The concert at Dorchester Abbey is the start of the Benson Christmas season.”

Guests were treated to a diverse program, showcasing the versatility and talent of the RAF Regiment Band, who often accompany world class orchestras. From classical pieces, film scores to a personally composed piece “A Christmas Wedding” by AS1 Antonia Nicholson. Soloists included AS1 Dickens, Cpl Breeze and Sgt Godfrey who serenaded the guests on his 50th birthday. The performance reflected the enduring spirit and camaraderie of the Royal Air Force.

Behind the scenes, the success of the event was made possible by the RAFBF charity committee, a dedicated team comprising both serving members and civil service staff from across the station. Their commitment ensured that the concert was a cultural highlight and a meaningful contribution to the Fund’s mission of providing support to the RAF family.

As the final notes echoed through the Abbey’s vaulted ceilings, the sense of community and shared purpose was unmistakable. The evening served as a powerful reminder that, while the RAF Benevolent Fund has supported generations of personnel, its work remains as vital today as ever.
