144 Signals Unit Engineering Awards Dinner

On Thursday 21st September the Battlespace Management Operations Engineering Wing (now No.144 Signals Unit), hosted the inaugural Engineering Awards Dinner at The Alnwick Garden. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the excellent contribution made by the Wing’s personnel, in enabling defence of the UK and its overseas territories. Ranging from the tireless efforts of the Cyber Operations Squadron in maintaining output of the radar, radio, data-link and Command & Control systems from The Shetlands to Southampton, and that of the Expeditionary Radar & Airfield Squadron whom maintain constant readiness to deploy the Force’s deployable airfield and radar capabilities. All co-ordinated by the enduring work of the unit’s HQ element based at RAF Boulmer itself.

In celebration of their contribution, an evening of festivities and award presentation took place at this stunning local venue. Sponsored by the unit’s friends at BAE Systems, the event saw over 90 personnel in attendance and included representation by 19 & 20 Sqns, Force HQ, the Engineering Role Office, Aquila and RAF Boulmer itself including the Station Commander. Enhancing the evening were the band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who provided excellent ambience and entertainment throughout, and a special thank you to AM (Rtd) Sir Stuart Atha as the key note speaker, who delivered a truly sterling address on the importance of recognition and those whom work ‘behind the scenes’.

The event was a fantastic success and thoroughly enjoyed by all whom attended, either from the unit itself or as welcome guests. Demands have already been received for a repeat event in 2024, and it is fully expected that this will become an annual occurrence. Our thanks once again to all whom supported and enabled the evening, especially those at RAF Boulmer.
