RAF Boulmer joined forces with local schools, businesses and residents on Friday 3 July 2026 to deliver a Community Road Safety Morning in Longhoughton, promoting safe and legal driving through the village.

The event brought together children from Longhoughton C of E Primary School and RAFA Kidz Nursery, RAF service personnel, contractors including Galliford Try, Northumbria Police, and members of the local community. The initiative aimed to encourage responsible driving behaviours and raise awareness of road safety among all who live and work in the area.

In the weeks leading up to the event, members of the RAF Boulmer community visited Longhoughton C of E Primary School, working alongside pupils to create flags and banners that were displayed on the day. The enthusiasm and creativity shown by the children reflected their commitment to making their village safer.

Ruth Denley, Philippa Bromley and Kala Dickinson, who organised the event as members of the RAF Boulmer Road Safety Committee and as parents and village residents, said the event demonstrated the value of bringing stakeholders together around a shared goal.

"By working together, we can deliver a consistent and positive road safety message that benefits everyone in Longhoughton,"
Ruth Denley
"The response from the community was fantastic, and we hope to make this a regular fixture in the community calendar."
Kala Dickinson
The event was widely praised as a success, with strong turnout from across the village. Organisers thanked all those who took part for their enthusiasm, support and engagement.
