Spitfire Memorial Service

On Friday 12th April, representatives from RAF Boulmer, Air Command and Control Force, 19 Squadron and 20 Squadron, had the honour of attending the Spitfire Memorial Service at Northumberland Woodland Burial and Crematorium.

The service marked the 80th anniversary of the collision between Sgt Knagenhjelm and 1st Lieutenant Serapiglia. A model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ia R6762 which was flown by Sgt Knagenhjelm stands proud next to the monument to the airmen who lost their lives when the Spitfire and USAAF P-47, flown by Serapiglia collided.

During the service Officer Commanding 19 Squadron unveiled the monument and wreaths were laid in the pilots honour.
