On 4th December, we held a simulation of a drink driving incident at the entrance to the Station.

The aim of this incident simulation was to raise awareness of drink driving, especially during the festive period, and to make individuals aware of the possible consequences.

The responders who took part in the exercise were RAF Medics, RAF Fire Section, and RAF Police, who had been given limited information to ensure it was realistic.

The scenario was that a car had crashed at RAF Brize Norton main gate, with the report of two casualties and no smoke. Using this information responders at the scene completed a dynamic risk assessment to devise a plan and common understanding of the best way to deal with the incident. The medics were able to safely assist and extract the conscious casualty out of the car doorway. The second casualty was severely injured and had to be extracted from the car via a roof removal and then placed on a long board, which was then placed onto a stretcher.

After the exercise was completed successfully, the car was left in situ to be a reminder to all personnel over the festive period.
