Wing Commander Turnbull, Officer Commanding 1AMW said:

“Today is a momentous occasion for the Wing, marking the 20th anniversary of 1 Air Mobility Wing and the 60th anniversary of the UK Mobile Air Movements Squadron. To be Officer Commanding during this time is a huge honour for me. For the members of the Wing who’ve joined us here at the Church today, this unit will be their home in the RAF for many years to come. I’ve encouraged them to reflect on what it means to be here to be part of this milestone. Today we’ve taken the opportunity during the service to talk about the history of the Wing and look towards the future of movements within the RAF.”

Group Captain Smith, Commander of the Support Force said:

“I was a Flight Commander on 1AMW very close to when the unit started, so to be here today as the commander of the Support Force whom the Wing now sit under, it’s really special for me. 1AMW is a unit that throughout its 20-year span, has been consistently at the heart of defence operations. When you look at the sheer number of contributions to operations the unit has made over the last 20 years it’s incredibly impressive. For the people serving on 1AMW today they should be really proud for wearing that badge on their arm.”
