A Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130H departed RAF Brize Norton today, following a successful 10 week mission in support of Ukraine.
Group Captain Emily Flynn, Station Commander RAF Brize Norton, attended a short farewell presentation ceremony with the New Zealand detachment commander, Wing Commander Lisa D’Oliveira, before the aircraft took off.
The aircraft, and up to 50 personnel, arrived at RAF Brize Norton on 17 April 2022. They were supported by Brize Norton personnel from Operations Wing and 47 Squadron, who operate the C-130J aircraft.
During the deployment the Royal New Zealand Air Force moved over 200,000kg of cargo, but also shared information and best practise with their cousins on 47 Squadron.
Wing Commander James Sjoberg, Officer Commanding 47 Squadron said:
“It has been a great honour to host the personnel of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at 47 Squadron. We have a long history of friendship with our comrades on 40 Squadron RNZAF and this was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the bonds between our crews, engineers and support teams. I wish all the Kiwis a safe journey home and we hope to work with them again in the future”
Wing Commander James Sjoberg
Officer Commanding No. 47 Squadron
