Royal Air Force Personnel Deployed in the Middle East are Recognised for Meritorious Service

The 903 Expeditionary Air Wing’s C-130J Hercules Detachment was among fourteen individuals and one other team who were recently awarded an Air Officer Commanding 83 Expeditionary Air Group Commendation.

The one-star Commendation is in recognition of their contribution to Air Operations in the Middle East, delivering high levels of excellence throughout their deployment on counter Daesh operations. The Global Coalition against Daesh was formed in September 2014 of which the UK is a major contributor to the military campaign and an active coalition partner across all lines of effort.

Air Commodore Simon Strasdin, Officer Commanding 83 Expeditionary Air Group and UK Air Component Commander said:

“It gives me great pleasure to award these deserving individuals and teams with my Commendation, I would like to congratulate everyone and thank them for their outstanding commitment and excellence.  Their meritorious service has directly supported the UK mission in the Middle East.”

The mission of 83 Expeditionary Air Group is to deliver Air and Space Power effects across the Middle East. The operations support the UK’s interests in promoting security and stability across the region and at home.

Wing Commander Richard Fawkes, Officer Commanding 47 Squadron, said:

“The Hercules Detachment consistently goes above and beyond, displaying determination and versatility to deliver safe and efficient Tactical Air Transport throughout the Operation SHADER region.  This most deserved Commendation rewards the huge efforts of the Detachment but implicitly recognises the hard work of everyone in the C-130J’s Whole Force, each of whom takes great pride in ensuring C-130J Hercules success on operations.”
