Senior Aircraftman Smith is Presented with Top General Engineering Student Award

The annual Institution of Mechanical Engineers award for Top General Engineering Student at No 4 School for 2019 has been won by Senior Aircraftman (Technician) Steven Smith.

Steven Smith, a Senior Aircraftman General Technician Mechanical, currently based at RAF Brize Norton, joined the Royal Air Force on the 14th Nov 2017. Since arriving at Brize in April 2019, Steven completed his NVQ Level 3 in General Engineering and gained a Modern Apprenticeship certificate 14 months ahead of schedule, and is due to be promoted in November this year.

The annual Institution of Mechanical Engineers award for top general engineering student at the No 4 School of Technical Training for the Royal Air Force, recognises the outstanding achievement of an individual who has successfully completed technical training within the field of mechanical engineering.

The relationship between the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Air Force is a strong one with a well-developed path for individuals to achieve professional registration.

Steven has gained valuable experience on Specialist Airfield Vehicles such as Fire Fighting and Aircraft Servicing vehicles and has recently moved to another vehicle team that maintain the Units Green fleet of Support vehicles, such as, the MAN SV, Land Rovers and Trauma Medical vehicles. Steven has proven himself to be a rising star of Trade Group 5, during a manufacturer’s visit to provide training on the Airfield Sweeper.
