Temporary Field Hospital Deployed to Support World Food Programme

Within the RAF Logistics domain, numerous stakeholders have been involved in planning and assisting the World Food Programme with the move of a temporary field hospital to Accra. Once it is in place, the field hospital can then be deployed to any location, in any country that needs it, in order to provide medical support to those affected by COVID-19.

This has been a Whole Force effort with input and assistance from 1 Air Mobility Wing, 2 Mechanical Transport (MT) Squadron, 29 Reg and the Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit, all providing support to ensure the swift deployment of the field hospital.

The Department for International Development (DFID) freight was moved from Norway into the Joint Air Mounting Centre at South Cerney, where RLC Logisticians from 29 Regt had a significant part to play in orchestrating this Logs move, raising the paperwork and carrying out the initial preparation of freight for movement by air.

The move from South Cerney to Brize Norton wasn’t without help from the UK Mobile Air Movements team who assisted moving the load onto the wagons to ensure safe movement via road from South Cerney to Brize Norton. The Mechanical Transport Squadron from RAF Wittering have then provided support by transporting the loads from South Cerney to RAF Brize Norton.

Within the RAF Logistics domain, numerous stakeholders have been planning and assisting the World Food Programme with the move of a temporary field hospital to Accra.

The Cargo section within the Air Movements Squadron at RAF Brize Norton have been working around the clock to ensure full use of carrying capacity on the C-17 Globemasters to carry freight over the next week.

This has been a large Operation with numerous key Stakeholders involved which has required close communication and teamwork throughout to ensure this task was a success from start to finish.
