Besides the focus on flying in challenging environmental conditions, the event is designed to implement "Joint Interoperability Training" and advanced Composite Air Operations (COMAO).

ETAP-T 22 o providing a great opportunity for supporting elements deployed on exercise, such as Tactical Air Traffic Control and engineering sections to work with parent nations at Natural Surface Landing Zones and at the Maintenance Operations Centre (MOC).

The Detatchment Commander, Squadron Leader Tom Arnold said:

“It’s an honour and privilege to represent the RAF and contribute to such an important European Air Mobility exercise. The training available will enable the C-130 crews and support staff of 47 Squadron to practise vital skills that are regularly required in Op SHADER and build upon the already well established Air Mobility enterprise that encompasses the Whole Force approach at Brize Norton. The Portuguese have been excellent hosts and the ETAP staff have built a very impressive exercise, whist it has been a pleasure to collaborate with all the participating nations.’
