The Operational Capability Demonstration of the Unmanned Air System (UAS) will take place between 25th February to 8th March 2019.  Operation of the UAS may take place any time day or night.

The equipment will be operated by fully trained FP Force personnel and will be operated within and up to the perimeter of the base.

The UAS is part of a wide-ranging assessment of future force protection methods available to be utilised by Force Protection personnel in their duty to detect, find, and inform.  The demonstration provides an opportunity for RAF personnel to understand the capabilities and relevance of the UAS in a military airspace environment.

Safety of our aircraft and personnel on the ground is paramount.  The UAS demonstration is authorised by the Military Aviation Authority and all flights within RAF Brize Norton’s Military Air Traffic Zone are co-ordinated with Station Flight Operations and controlled by Air Traffic Control.

Civilian operators of RPAS are required to adhere to the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) regulations on the operations of such equipment.  Further details can be found on the CAA’s website: https://www.caa.co.uk/consumers/unmanned-aircraft-and-drones/ and Drone Safe: https://dronesafe.uk/
