The Defence Fire Training Unit , based at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, proudly celebrated the graduation of Trainee Firefighter Course 01/26 on 9 July 2026.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of an intensive 14 weeks training for 17 new RAF firefighters, who will now begin their careers across the Defence Fire and Rescue Service.

Family, friends, instructors and guests gathered to recognise the hard work, professionalism and resilience demonstrated by the trainees throughout the course. The graduating firefighters now move on to stations across the UK, joining the frontline defence fire capability and continuing the proud tradition of RAF firefighting excellence.
The Reviewing Officer for the event was Group Captain Karen Moran, Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff Aerodrome Operations & Battlespace Management, whose distinguished career has spanned almost four decades of service. The graduation ceremony was particularly poignant as it is one of Group Captain Moran's final official engagements before leaving the Royal Air Force after 38 years of dedicated service. Her attendance provided inspiration to the graduates, offering a powerful example of leadership, commitment, professionalism, and culture setting. On behalf of the Defence Fire Training Unit, we thank Group Captain Moran for her outstanding contribution to Defence and wish her every success and happiness in her well-earned retirement.
Squadron Leader Charles Carpenter, Officer Commanding Defence Fire Training Unit, congratulated the graduates on their achievement and recognised the dedication of the instructional staff who have guided them through training. He praised the course for its teamwork, determination and high standards, qualities that will serve the new firefighters well throughout their RAF careers.
As the newest members of the Defence Fire and Rescue family depart for their first postings, they do so equipped with the skills, confidence and values required to protect personnel, assets and operations across Defence.
Congratulations to all graduates of Trainee Firefighter Course 01/26 and best wishes for long and successful careers in the Royal Air Force.
