Squadron Leader Mike Waring handed over command of 57 Squadron (Sqn) to Squadron Leader Gareth Cothill

Recently, Squadron Leader Mike Waring handed over command of 57 Squadron (Sqn) to Squadron Leader Gareth Cothill.  57 Sqn are part of Number 3 Flying Training School based at RAF College Cranwell.

Squadron Leader Waring completed a marathon tour as Officer Commanding (OC) 57 Sqn, in which he successfully moved the Sqn from RAF Wyton to Aircraft Hall at RAF College Cranwell and safely drew-down Tutor operations, preparing and establishing the Squadron as a Prefect Elementary Flying Training Sqn.  

During his time as OC 57 Sqn he has been responsible for training and streaming of countless students. Squadron Leader Waring is due to take command of East Midlands Universities Air Squadron later in 2021.   

Squadron Leader Cothill arrives on 57 Sqn having served 2 years in the Air Warfare Centre at RAF Waddington as OC Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) Test and Evaluation Flight. Sqn Ldr Cothill has a background in ISTAR having flown the Nimrod MR2, USAF Predator, Reaper, and SHADOW.  He also has a background in instruction having served as a Qualified Flying Instructor on 45 Sqn flying KINGAIR B200s.
